EMDR Psychotherapy

I am continually amazed by just how transformative EMDR has been for my clients.  It is the psychotherapy most often requested by new clients seeking help from me, particularly as people become more and more knowledgeable of evidenced-based therapies that can provide relief most quickly.

engage natural self-healing abilities

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) was developed by Francine Shapiro in the late 1980’s.  Dr. Shapiro studied how the same rapid eye movements that spontaneously occur during sleep, if paired with conditions of safety in the present moment, would help bring distressing memories to resolution.  Over the past few decades, research has supported how EMDR psychotherapy can help engage our brains' natural self-healing abilities and finally resolve the disturbing parts of old memories so people can have a more accurate experience of safety in the here and now.
